The Angiosperm Tree ABG III; Figures indicate the number of genera within the family
Phylogenetic trees symbolize evolution. This tree approximates the APG III classification of flowering plants and highlights the positions of the caffeine-containing genera. To get a well-resolved picture of the taxonomic tree click onto the tree in the logo at the left.
The visitor that would have the fruit or flower must climb the tree
When hovering over the colored tree illustration, you will see the clades of the plant kingdom. They are ramified and named up to the orders showing that among them only five hold 'caffeine genera': Ericales, Aquifoliales, Gentianales, Sapindales, and Malvales.

Along with the classical genera
such as Camellia (Theaceae), Ilex (Aquifoliaceae), Coffea (Rubiaceae), Paullinia (Sapindaceae), Theobroma & Cola (Malvaceae), the tree shows also Citrus & Murraya (Rutaceae) as well as Herrania & Tilia (Malvaceae). The total number of genera within the related 'caffeine family' is put in brackets.
